More news from Ao Yon Bay!

Sail in Asia have recently purchased another yacht. This time its a Bruce Farr-designed 1104. Named Pinocchio (formerly Mat Saleh), she is a fast and nimble yacht, and was the 2013 Royal Selangor Raja Muda Regatta winner (Class 4).

After a refit and repaint at Krabi Boat Lagoon we drove in the early hours from Phuket to Krabi (stopping for a fried breakfast), setting sail at 10am. Despite recent weather warnings and strong spring tides to contend with, we made our way from Krabi to Ao Yon Bay in good time, arriving tired, but in one piece. One our way we encountered westerly gusts of up to 35mph, 3 metre waves and the full force of the Indian Ocean!

Pinocchio will be entering the 2014 Phuket Race Week from the 16th-20th July. As I write, finishing touches are being made to her rigging and sails, and we are currently in discussion with various sponsors. Our Sail in Asia racing team is raring to go, and includes Sail in Asia’s CEO, Mike Downard and our Chief Instructor and ex-Team GB sailor, Oliver Wilce. Team training continues this coming week in preparation.

We’ll see you at the start line!
