Course Overview

The ISSA Inshore Skipper Motor Yacht Course is designed for students who have already completed the required foundation courses and are ready to assume responsibility as skipper of a motor yacht.

Training combines classroom instruction with extensive practical experience afloat, allowing you to immediately apply new knowledge in realistic boating situations. Throughout the course you'll develop confidence in navigation, pilotage, passage planning, marina manoeuvring, close-quarters handling, collision regulations, weather interpretation and skipper decision-making.

Unlike smaller powerboats, larger motor yachts require careful planning, effective crew communication and precise boat handling. You'll learn how to operate safely in marinas, manage engines and onboard systems, conduct short coastal passages and make confident decisions as skipper under the guidance of experienced instructors.

On successful completion you'll receive the internationally recognised ISSA Inshore Skipper Motor Yacht Certificate, providing an excellent foundation for independent cruising and future progression towards the ISSA Offshore Skipper Course.

On successful completion, you'll receive the internationally recognised ISSA Inshore Skipper Certificate, demonstrating your ability to skipper a motor yacht safely in coastal waters and providing the ideal foundation for progressing to the ISSA Offshore Skipper Course.

This is a highly practical course, combining classroom instruction with extensive time on the water. Practical exercises are integrated throughout the programme, allowing you to apply your navigation, yacht handling and skipper decision-making skills in real sailing conditions.
