Combining essential navigation theory with practical experience on the water, this course covers chartwork, route planning, navigation hazards and making informed decisions in real coastal conditions.

Course Summary
The ISSA Keelboat Navigator Course is a practical two-day introduction to coastal navigation, combining modern electronic navigation tools with the essential knowledge needed to plan and follow short passages safely.
Using tablet-based marine chartplotting software, you’ll learn how to identify your position, create waypoints and routes, recognise navigational hazards and understand the effects of tides, currents and weather when planning a passage.
raining combines shoreside instruction with practical experience on the water, allowing you to put your navigation skills into use while remaining actively involved in sailing the keelboat. The emphasis is on understanding the information available to you and using it to make sensible decisions in real coastal conditions.
Basic sailing experience is recommended, and students who have completed the ISSA Keelboat Crew Course will find this a natural next step. Successful students receive the ISSA Keelboat Navigator qualification and can continue their training with the ISSA Keelboat Skipper Course.
There is a handbook that is available to students for elements to this course. These can be purchased at the shop individually or in the near future as a compendium edition.
