Course Overview

The ISSA Inshore Skipper Multihull Course is designed for students who have completed the required foundation training and are ready to take responsibility as skipper of a cruising multihull.

Training combines classroom instruction with extensive practical experience afloat, allowing you to apply navigation, pilotage, passage planning, weather interpretation and skipper decision-making in realistic sailing situations.

Multihulls have different handling characteristics from monohull yachts, particularly when manoeuvring under power, berthing, anchoring and managing their wider beam. During the course, you’ll develop confidence handling these vessels while learning to manage the yacht, its systems and its crew safely.

The course may be completed entirely aboard a multihull, although Sail in Asia strongly recommends training across a range of yachts, keelboats and multihulls where possible. This wider experience helps students understand the practical differences between vessel types and prepares them more thoroughly for bareboat chartering or future yacht ownership.

On successful completion, you’ll receive the internationally recognised ISSA Inshore Skipper Certificate, providing an excellent foundation for independent cruising and progression towards the ISSA Offshore Skipper Course.
