Yacht Crew – ISSA Yacht Crew Course

The ISSA Yacht Crew Course is great starter course for beginners to sailing or power boating. Our course teaches you to sail a yacht or keelboat in light to moderate boating conditions on all points of sail. The course is 90% practical and 10% theoretical. This means you leave us not being an assistant but knowing how to sail and being an active and competent crew member.  Our course is designed so you can then join an Inshore Skippers Course and gain further experience and competence.

Sail in Asia are very keen for students to gain experience in a variety of yachts and types of yachts through participation in this ISSA Yacht Crew  course.  We have keelboats, yachts, trimarans and RIBs in our fleet and with luck you will get a chance to sail all of these types of yachts by course end. This will enhance your competence and experience as a Yacht Crew.

The ISSA Yacht Crew course is a 4 day course for beginners to sailing. Its designed to get you out on the water in a wide variety of craft and to gain experience as a helm, sail trimmer, anchor hand and mast sailor. We want you to experience managing a yacht on all points of sail, anchoring her, gybing and tacking effectively, reefing and sail setting as well helming and crewing our yachts safely.

Qualifications:

ISSA Yacht Crew Certificate

SSA Certification

ISSA Certified courses are at present issued on a plastic credit card type of material but the ISSA management are now keen to promote a much greener option – online registration and certification. We can’t say too much about this at present but keep your eyes to the ground. We think there will be significant changes and we are hoping Asia will be a testing ground for this to happen.

Certification will be not be the end of your marine education hopefully, but the beginning. We hope to encourage students to not collect badges but experience. If you can record your experience online on an ISSA data base you will be able to show your mileage and experience to possible insurers and to course directors or bareboat charter agents. You will be able to prove your caliber and obtain lower insurance rates and easier yacht charter bookings.
