Read about Sailing Regattas in Asia
The yacht racing scene in Phuket has several organised regattas every year. The Phuket Yacht Club (PYC) offers and organises two, the Sailors Regatta and The Jai Dee Regatta. Sail in Asia organise two also, the One Design Regatta and the Asian Airline Pilots Regatta. Other regattas include the Phuket Kings Cup and the Phuket Race Week.
PYC Jai Dee Regatta
The Phuket Yacht Club run The Jai Dee Sailing Regatta in March every year. It usually has an IRC monohull fleet, a Multihull fleet and a Keelboat fleet (Platus). The regatta is an inexpensive regatta just 5/6000 THB to enter and is always fun and hosted beautifully at the PYC in Chalong area of Phuket.
The event is always 3 days - Friday to Sunday and is a friendly but highly competitive event, that is growing more and more popular each year. The PWSC sailing club usually organise Platus to participate and we usually have a weekend to to teach newcomers to racing how to Learn to Race.
Our Platu fleet numbers 7 vessels and you can charter the boats for regattas by contacting us or emailing us on the buttons on this site. The learn to sail course will make you much more competitive and safer when racing. Check out the One Design Regatta for pure yacht racing.
One Design Regatta
The One Design Yacht Racing Regatta is the latest sailing event planned for the region and will be held in Phuket at Ao Yon Bay and Chalong Bay. This unique event will be the first regatta to promote only One Design Yacht Racing. It's scheduled for October 29th/31st 2022 (the ‘windy’ month).
The Platu Fleet will be available to high quality teams from Asia. The Farr 1104 fleet will also be available for One Design racing as will the Pulse 600 Trimarans. We expect that the Phuket Firefly fleet will also join the racing. Sponsors will ensure there are prizes and BBQs and a fairly low cost event.
PYC Sailors Regatta
The Phuket Sailors regatta is usually organised for March or April at Phuket Yacht Club by the local club. Its a very friendly event and has a Sports Boat Class of 7 Platus and an IRC monohull class as well as a Multihull division of cats and trimarans. The PYC provide a quality event for a very reasonable cost and the final night prize giving and awards ceremony is a lively party and presentation. Food is delicious and served by a very hard working friendly staff. Mark this event down in your calendar.
Sports Boats (Platus) are always entered and if you'd like to see how fast you are feel free to enter the competition and charter a yacht. We also have monohulls which are fast boats and these are also for rental. Call us or email us if you want further information.
Phuket Race Week
The annual Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Race Week presents a full week of International yacht racing off Phuket’s east coast, for a wide range of yacht classes and is a popular venue for many of the serious racers around Asia. The event is extravagantly hosted and is considered to be Phuket's most up market and sophisticated regatta.
SIA have a fleet of 7 Platus that are available for charter to top teams from Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. The SIA fleet of Platu yachts are all well matched with similar sails and similar equipment thus equalizing the boats and ensuring nearly Absolute One Design competition.
Besides Platus Sail in Asia have several IRC yachts that are available for charter. Have a look at the IRC gallery and see if our yachts appeal to you. Magic, Piccolo, Pinocchio and Shanghai Baby are available for charter. These yachts have great sailing reputations and have won many competitions. The yachts are in pretty good condition and are very competitive.
Phuket King's Cup Regatta
The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is Thailands premier sailing yacht regatta and was founded in 1987. The regatta began with a mixture of keelboats, catamarans, Lasers and even windsurfers. Covid has regretably impacted on this prestigious event and the event has been cancelled for three years. However over the years it has grown to become Asia’s most popular regatta. Sail in Asia’s fleet are always involved in the regatta and this coming year we hope to charter out our entire fleet of Platus and our IRC yachts too. Check out the SIA yachts and book early!
Asian Airlines Regatta
The 4th Asian Airline Regatta will be organised by Sail in Asia in late 2022, following on from the successful events in 2017-19. Phuket's tropical waters, resurgent economy and the growing interest in water sports will we hope revive this event after the Covid epidemic subsides.
Sail in Asia's Asian Airlines Regatta, is the latest of our Asian regattas. Established in 2017 this regatta has been enthusiastically supported by Airline pilots based in Hong Kong, in tandem with Sail in Asia. The aim of this Asian Airlines Regatta is to have fleets of One Design Yachts competing against each other. As we all know, One Design Yacht Racing is fabulous fun, as it's a level playing field and that means the best team, almost always wins the races. Our Platu fleet has become the popular racing fleet for corporate events and this is probably our most successful event.
