The Zero to Hero Course is SIA’s most popular course. Why?  The answer is a thorough course, which is very attractively priced and offers a fun introduction to becoming a recreational yacht skipper.  The course is essentially 4 courses that can be learned as one option, the ‘classic course’ 14 days in duration or two other options – the dates of courses are explained on this link in detail.

The 4 elements to the course are Yacht Crew, VHF Radio, Inshore Skipper 1 and Inshore Skipper 2. There are handbooks that are available to students for elements to this course. These can be purchased at the shop individually or in the near future as a compendium edition.

ISSA Zero to Hero Course

Learn to Sail with our ISSA Zero to Hero Course which is available, twice, every month, in Phuket, Thailand, as well as occasionally at our Phillipine and Malaysian Sailing bases.The Zero to Hero sailing courses are fast track courses for anyone who want to skipper a yacht safely and independently in the shortest time possible.  The course comprises of 4 courses rolled into one – Yacht Crew, VHF Radio, Inshore Skipper 1 and Inshore Skipper 2

We strongly recommend the 14 day Classic course as it is 40% longer than most sailing Schools.  You get a longer, more thorough course and leave us knowing so much and being competent in all the skills in the syllabus. Qualifications: VHF Radio Operators Cert, Yacht Crew, Inshore Skipper 1& 2

What’s included: Safety equipment, Instruction, Yacht, Bottled Water, Fuel and Insurance

What’s required: Sun protection. Sun hat. Shorts that cover the knees when sitting are best. Footwear for on-board tennis shoes / trainers / Crocs. Some people like to use gloves. Lightweight wet weather clothing.

Inshore Skipper – ISSA Multihull Yacht Course

The Inshore Skipper ISSA Multihull course is a 10 day course that includes VHF Radio, Inshore Skipper 1 and Inshore Skipper 2.  We generally run this ten day course after students have done their ISSA Yacht Crew Course (4 days).  We strongly recommend that you do the Yacht Crew Course if you have learned to sail some time ago and or if you come from dinghy sailing.  Yachts and Multihulls require similar skills, and the Inshore Skipper 10 day course requires that you know how to sail in all directions, that you can reef, heave to, moor a yacht, come alongside and anchor.  The 10 days is spent learning navigation, meteorology, yacht management, engines, safety and a whole gamut of extra things which ensure you are a good learner skipper at course end. The Multihull course can be taken on a multihull throughout, but our strong recommendation is you complete the course on a range of vessels. The Zero to Hero Course includes all the above courses but also a 4 day  Yacht Crew Course and is exceptionally well priced!

Boat Master – ISSA Motor Yacht Course

The ISSA Boat Master Course is for candidates that have crewed on a small boat but have a very elementary understanding of sailing or powerboat handling.  The aim of the course is to increase the candidates’ nautical knowledge to competently take on the duties of a beginner Boat Master on a small yacht or motor boat, during the day and up to 20 NM from shelter in fair weather, and moderate sea conditions.

Offshore Skipper – ISSA Yacht Course

ISSA courses are unique in that theory and practice are seamlessly interwoven and as a consequence students learning is vastly improved. Our Offshore Skipper course requires candidates to have mastered the collision regulations, navigation (DR, EP, Fixes, GPS, Course to Steer etc), tides and currents and have a good knowledge of the ISSA Inshore Skipper Syllabus. Students wishing to attend this course need to have 800 sea miles properly logged and hold an ISSA Inshore Skipper or RYA Day Skipper certificate.

The course is a 10 day course combining practical and theory in yacht seamanship and navigation for students who have completed a foundation course (Zero to Hero Classic) with Sail in Asia and also a 14 day course for students who have alternative accreditation, (RYA, ASA, AYA etc) or significant  time lapses, since their original Theory was learnt.  The 14 day course, prepares you for the ISSA Yachtmaster Offshore, – when you have gained the necessary mileage and other pre-requisites.
